Great Day But Weight Is Starting To Concern Me - Just Not Enough

The vacation continues to be as spectacular as ever but as I sit here typing this I can see the tummy re-appearing that I had fought so hard to take off. I am definitely making better decisions than I have on other trips though. I'm saying "no" to a lot and if a place of sweets are put out I have two MAXIMUM (usually one) whereas before I would have eaten the whole plate, but still, it is vacation, and every meal is a meal out. I don't always want to make the "right" choices. I also know I need to stay active but the problem is no amount of activity is likely to compare to the amount I do in the gym 7 days a week, so activity to counter-balance eating is only marginally helpful.

Today will be another day like this. It is my last day in Annan and I know one Uncle will be taking us out for lunch and two uncles will be taking us out for dinner. The problem is I really don't WANT to be good. I will, however, try not to be too bad.

When I was back in Canada I promised to continue to weigh-in every Wednesday. I truly would have weighed in yesterday but I cannot find a scale anywhere. There certainly isn't one in the B&B. I did weight myself just before leaving Bournemouth and I was up 4.5 pounds. I suspect it is a bit more now (but not too much) so I have to try to ensure I level myself off at this weight as much as possible.

Yesterday started out well enough. Instead of the big breakfast I had Yogurt and Scrambled Eggs on one slice of toast. I was still a little hungry after that and the B&B had some delicious looking jams I had wanted to try so I had an additional half slice of toast and put a different type of Jam on each side so I could taste it. It was good but it just tasted like...well...jam.

After lunch My Uncle Jock picked us up and we started off to Lockerbie. It is only ten miles away.

We had to pick up our train ticket there for Friday and also wanted to see the site of the Lockerbie Plane Bombing.

Along the way we stopped at a friend of Uncle Jock's to see his flowers. I am absolutely amazed by the number of men who grow flowers as a hobby here. There are so many spectacular backyards.

We then went to the site of the Lockerbie Plane Crash. I will describe the pictures below in the captions where not self-evident.

After Lockerbie we drove back toward Annan, realized we forgot to get the train tickets, went back, got the tickets and headed back toward Annan again.

Along the way we stopped and saw Hoddom Castle

My Uncle dropped us off three miles from Annan so that we could walk back along the crest of the river and meet him at the other end an hour and a half later. He said "just follow the path and don't stray from the river and you will get there". We didn't stray from the river but it strayed from us twice. It took us two hours.

We had a quick bite to eat ( a burger and a beer but at least I didn't put cheese on it and skipped the chips) before leaving and then and set off on our way along Annan River.

Oops - almost ate it all when I
remembered to take the pic!

After our walk we went back to Uncle Jock's where Aunt Irene had tea ready for us, We then went off to visit my Uncle Marty's ex-wife Aunt May. I hadn't seen her since I was about 12 years old. She is 80 now and has had her battles with Cancer but is doing well and is as spry as ever. It was good to see her. She put out desserts and they all laughed because I gasped as soon as she did. I think my favourite cookie is an Empire Cookie. She had them in tart form. I couldn't resist. I had two.

Couldn't resist the Tarts. Had two!!!

After that we went back to the B&B for an hour. Jamie had a nap while I followed up on some business and then Uncle Jock and Aunt Irene picked us up again and we we went out for dinner. Haggis & Chicken was on the menu and I was determined to try Haggis when I was in Scotland so that is what I ordered along with...what else...a beer. It came with veggies and chips but I only ate a few chips. I would love to say that was a good thing but I managed to convince myself that since I didn't have a starter and didn't have many chips I could have Sticky Toffee Pudding With Ice Cream and Butterscotch Sauce for dessert. I forgot to take a pic but is was real good. I am definitely slipping on the "food watch" in Annan.

That was it for that spectacular day. Uncle Harris will be taking us out today.

Be healthy!

Hi Alan - it's Trish from IHN. Lovely to see you enjoying a trip of a lifetime - commecting with family roots and taking time to spend with your elders is SO important. You will not regret this trip and will have wonderful memories of the people interactions and the love. So don't let it be spoiled with being overly anxious about gaining a pound or two. Keep making better choices and keep playing the long game. Getting to goal is really just the starting point - learning to successfully LIVE (not just exist) at goal is the most important, albeit hardest part. You are doing great in being conscious of what is put in front of you - keep doing it. This is a valuable learning experiece that will help you to navigate "normal everyday not on a diet and working out like a fiend" life when you return. So enjoy and relax....

Hey Beeb: Great update. Let's just go over a couple of things:
1) Fact: When you fly, you automatically retain water that can add up to as much as 5 pounds.
2) Fact: Lets also remember there is a "bodily function" that can also become out of regularity, caused by flying resulting in bloat and excess water retention.
3) Fact: You are on vacation and you also need to treat yourself honey and enjoy each taste of the delish and divine.
4) Fact: You look fannnntastic, and I want the first copy, off the press of your first modelling gig on the cover of LD: "Living Doll"... :)
5) Fact: Love ya honey, miss you always, and keep up the great work! BTW ~ Empire Cookies...betcha I can't eat just one! LOL

The lovely Deborah...
